Kaduna Refinery Project Hits 81.1% Completion – NMDPRA Boss

The Kaduna Refinery rehabilitation project has reached 81.1% completion, according to Farouk Ahmed, Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA).

Ahmed made this known during a conference at State House where he expressed satisfaction with the pace of work.

He noted that the progress reflects the federal government’s commitment to reviving local refining capacity and reducing dependency on imported petroleum products.

The project, which began as part of a broader plan to restore Nigeria’s aging refineries, is expected to be completed within the projected timeline.

Stakeholders in the oil and gas sector have commended the development, describing it as a step toward achieving energy security and economic stability in the country.

Breakdown of Dangote Refinery fuel supply since they started on September 1, 2024:

  1. September 2024 – 102 million Liters.
  2. October 2024 – 298 million liters.
  3. November 2024 – 580 million liters.
  4. December 2024 – 398 million liters.
  5. January 2025 – 692 million liters.
  6. February 2025 – 625 million liters.
  7. Match 2025 – 638 million liters.
  8. April 2025 to date – 238 million liters.

According to Farouk Ahmed, Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), based on Nigeria’s fuel demands, the Dangote refinery increase its supply from 6 million liters per day in September 2024 to 22 million liters per day by January 2025. Currently, the refinery contributes 18 million liters daily.

Given this, out of a total need of 50 million liters, Nigeria must find a way to source the remaining shortfall.

Breakdown of Port Harcourt Refinery fuel supply since they started on November 2024:

  1. November 2024 – 150 thousand liters.
  2. December 2024 – 1.3 million liters.
  3. January 2025 – 1.35 million liters.
  4. February 2025 – 1.4 million liters.
  5. Match 2025 – 1.1 million liters.

Breakdown of Warri Refinery’s AGO and HHK supply, which they operate for up to 26 days:

  1. December 2024 – AGO: 1.9 million liters,
    HHK: 2.8 million liters.
