Harrison Gwamnishu Suspends AKidnapping Volunteer Operations After Alleged Threats From Senior Police Officers
Ondopress reports that renowned anti-kidnapping volunteer, Harrison Gwamnishu, has formally withdrawn from his voluntary security operations, citing alleged threats from high-ranking police officers involved in collaborative field missions.
Gwamnishu, who has gained national recognition for assisting in the rescue of kidnap victims using technology-driven tracking methods, announced his decision in a public statement on Monday.
According to him, the increasing hostility from certain senior officers has created an unsafe and unpredictable environment for him during operations.
“I am not trying to make anyone feel incompetent,” he said.
“I respect security personnel who do this work full-time. But how do I continue working without fear when I know some personnel with me may have superiors who are unhappy with my involvement? Would they not give an order?”
Gwamnishu said the volunteer work, despite its inherent dangers, has demonstrated that criminals can be tracked and apprehended effectively through technology. However, the atmosphere of distrust within the ranks, he added, has made it too risky to continue.
“This voluntary job has taught me a lot. Despite my mistakes and weaknesses, I have shown that criminals can be located and arrested using technology. But I cannot read the intentions of those around me in the field,” he said.
He expressed gratitude to Nigerians for their support and hinted at a willingness to serve officially if called upon.
“If tomorrow I am called to serve this nation officially, I will gladly answer that call. Thank you, Nigerians, for your unwavering support and prayers.”
His decision has sparked concern among citizens who view his contributions as critical to combating rising cases of kidnapping nationwide.
