Tinubu Vows Clampdown On Those Behind Conflict In Plateau,pushes For Peace Urges Govt To Sensitize People Against Discrimination

President Bola Tinubu has vowed a firm crackdown on individuals and groups behind violent attacks and killings in Plateau State, declaring that the Federal Government will not tolerate those instigating conflict and insecurity in any part of the country.

Tinubu, who spoke during a high-level engagement on peace and security with the Plateau state government and stakeholders across the state, said government would deploy all lawful instruments of state to deal decisively with “troublemakers and agent provocateurs” responsible for unrest and repeated loss of lives.

He said the persistent violence in Plateau and other parts of the country must be addressed urgently to prevent further destruction of lives and livelihoods, stressing that peace remains a prerequisite for national development.

“We must stop creating widows, widowers and orphans. There must be peace for us to develop this country,” the President said.

Tinubu urged stakeholders, including traditional rulers, political leaders, and security agencies, to work collectively towards lasting peace, adding that existing recommendations and policy documents on conflict resolution should be revisited and implemented without delay.

He also called for strengthened collaboration between federal and state authorities, including lawmakers, in advancing discussions around the establishment of state police as part of broader security reforms.

According to him, improved local policing and enforcement structures would help address emerging security challenges and enhance rapid response to threats at community levels.

The President further tasked stakeholders with intensifying public sensitisation campaigns aimed at eliminating discrimination, hate speech, and communal mistrust, which he identified as drivers of violence.

He emphasized the need to engage youths constructively through education, media outreach, and inclusive governance, noting that sustainable peace can only be achieved through unity and mutual understanding.

Tinubu also directed that individuals identified as instigators of violence should be reported to security agencies for appropriate action, reiterating the government’s commitment to restoring stability across affected communities.
