Kwara PDP Governorship Aspirants Agree on Consensus Arrangement

The five governorship aspirants of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who have signified their intention to contest on the platform of the party have agreed that the flag-bearer should be selected through the consensus arrangement and that whoever is selected by the party leadership will enjoy the support of the others.

The agreement among the aspirants was reached after an exhaustive meeting of gubernatorial and National Assembly aspirants, stakeholders and leaders of the party held in the Maitama Abuja home of the party leader, Dr Abubakar Bukola Saraki on Sunday afternoon.

At the meeting attended by Prof. Ali Ahmad, Eng. Kale Kawu, Mr. Omar Bolaji Gambari, Alh. Ladi Hassan and Mr Olaseni Ibiwoye, SAN, all of whom have indicated interest in seeking the gubernatorial ticket of the party, the aspirants in their individual speeches expressed their readiness to accept the decision of the party leaders and work for any of them who is eventually selected.

They also promised that they would in the next 48 hours return home to inform their supporters across the state of their decision to support the consensus arrangement in the selection of the candidate and the need to work for whoever emerges as the eventual candidate.

The aspirants stated that they decided to support the consensus arrangement because it would reduce friction, help the party to present a united front, and move into the campaign period as a united team.

In his reaction, Saraki thanked the party aspirants for their decision but expressed his reservations about their decision because his experience has shown that people usually backtrack when the outcome of the consensus arrangement does not favour them.

He said he would give more consideration to the request of the aspirants while also intensifying consultations with other leaders and stakeholders of the party so that a joint, popular, and acceptable decision can be made.Full Details. .
