VDM Leads Youth Protest Against Insecurity in Abuja
Ondopress.com A protest against insecurity led by social media activist Martin Otse (VeryDarkMan) has drawn hundreds of youths, civil society groups, and concerned citizens in Abuja.
Carrying placards reading “End Insecurity Now” and “Security Is a Right, Not a Privilege,” protesters marched through the capital. When confronted by armed security operatives, VDM asked: “You have bullets to shoot us? Do you have bullets to shoot kidnappers? Carry your airplane and bomb them!” He insisted the protest was not political but aimed at drawing attention to the plight of ordinary Nigerians facing banditry, kidnapping, and terrorism.
Youths are increasingly taking to the streets, signaling growing frustration with government inaction on insecurity.
VDM’s challenge to security operatives questions why resources are used to suppress protests instead of fighting criminals.
The protest keeps pressure on the government to act on mass abductions, including the Oyo schoolchildren still in captivity.
President Tinubu has previously blamed insecurity on “enemies” trying to remove him, but protesters demand tangible results.
Peaceful demonstration with no major incidents shows civic engagement is possible without violence.
Protesters call for urgent government action, improved intelligence gathering, and better support for security agencies as insecurity continues to plague the nation.
