Georgina Rodríguez Reveals Why She and Cristiano Ronaldo Chose an Intimate Home Wedding
Georgina Rodríguez has revealed why she and Cristiano Ronaldo chose to celebrate their wedding in the privacy of their own home, saying they wanted a deeply personal moment surrounded by their children.
The couple married in Portugal on August 11, 2026, exactly 10 years after they first met at a Gucci store in Madrid.
Before the ceremony, Rodríguez opened up about their wedding plans during an exclusive interview with Vogue, explaining that her idea of a perfect wedding had changed significantly over the years.
Rodríguez said that as a child she imagined a spectacular ceremony featuring a grand castle, an elaborate carriage, a long wedding dress and a diamond crown.
However, her priorities changed as she grew older and built a life with Ronaldo.
Rather than organising a lavish ceremony, Rodríguez said she wanted the occasion to be intimate and centred on Ronaldo and their children.
She explained that the couple already have access to many of the luxuries people dream about, but moments of genuine intimacy are much harder to create.
Why Ronaldo and Georgina Chose Their Living Room
According to Rodríguez, the couple wanted their wedding to take place in a familiar environment where their family spends everyday life.
She said they ultimately decided to exchange their vows in their living room, the same space where they normally eat meals and spend time together as a family.
For Rodríguez, the significance of the location was not its luxury but the memories it would create for their children.
She hopes that decades from now, their children will remember the room as the place where their parents made their wedding vows.
«“I want something truly intimate. Just with my partner and our children, here, in our own home.”»
The decision reflects a more personal approach to the wedding, despite the enormous public attention surrounding the couple.
Couple Still Plans a Larger Celebration
Rodríguez also indicated that the intimate ceremony does not necessarily mean the couple will never celebrate their marriage with a larger gathering.
She said they would like to have a bigger wedding celebration in the future, allowing them to celebrate with family and friends.
The decision to keep the actual wedding intimate therefore appears to have been about creating a private family memory rather than avoiding a larger celebration altogether.
Ronaldo and Rodríguez have been together for around a decade and have built a family life that has remained under intense public attention.
By choosing their own home as the setting for their vows, Rodríguez said they wanted to create a memory that their children could associate with a place they already knew and loved.
For the couple, the wedding was ultimately less about grandeur and more about family, intimacy and creating a lasting memory in the place they call home.
