EXCLUSIVE: Elon Musk Again Calls Instagram an App ‘for Girls’
Tech billionaire Elon Musk has again described Instagram as an app “for girls,” reigniting discussion over his views about the social media platform and its user base.
Musk made the remark while responding to a post from a user who said they were leaving Instagram and described the platform as an “inherently female app” with little benefit.
Musk replied simply: “Instagram is for girls.”
The comment is not the first time Musk has made the characterization. He reportedly made a similar remark in May 2026.
Musk’s View on Instagram
Musk’s statement represents his personal characterization of the platform and does not establish the actual demographic composition or usage patterns of Instagram.
The remark has nevertheless attracted attention because of the large and diverse audience that uses Instagram for entertainment, business, communication, news and content creation.
X and Instagram Rivalry
Musk owns X, formerly known as Twitter, and has frequently commented on competing social media platforms.
His latest remark could fuel further comparisons between X and Instagram, particularly around their different content formats, audiences and online cultures.
The comments also highlight how statements by prominent technology executives can generate significant discussion across social media, even when they are presented as personal opinions.
Whether Instagram or its parent company responds to Musk’s latest comment remains to be seen.
