African Action Congress (AAC) presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore is expected at the Federal High Court in Abuja on Friday, October 2, as his defence continues in the cyberbullying case instituted against him by the Department of State Services (DSS).

Sowore announced his arrival at the court in a post on his official X account, saying he was appearing for the continuation of the trial.

The activist described the case as a “sham cybercrime trial” and accused the DSS of changing its position regarding the timing of the proceedings.

Sowore claimed that DSS counsel, Akinlolu Kehinde, SAN, had previously indicated that the prosecution would seek to suspend the proceedings until after the 2027 elections.

However, that account has been disputed in court.

At the previous hearing on September 28, Sowore’s lawyer, Adeyinka Olumide-Fusika, SAN, raised reports that the DSS might seek a lengthy adjournment to allow his client to concentrate on his presidential campaign.

Kehinde, representing the DSS, said he was ready for the defence to continue and expressed surprise that the defence was relying on media reports concerning the prosecution’s intentions. Justice Mohammed Umar subsequently fixed October 2 for continuation of Sowore’s defence.

Sowore Says “The Persecution Continues”

In his latest post, Sowore said the legal proceedings would not stop his political activities.

He wrote that he was returning to court while maintaining that “the persecution continues, but so does our resistance.”

The case stems from social media posts Sowore published in August 2025 concerning President **Bola Ahmed Tinubu**. The DSS brought the case over the posts, which included allegations and descriptions concerning the President.

The prosecution has already closed its case, while the court rejected Sowore’s no-case submission and directed him to open his defence.

Court Proceedings Continue

The latest proceedings are expected to focus on the continuation of Sowore’s defence and the production or examination of defence evidence.

The case has attracted political attention because Sowore is also preparing for the 2027 presidential election as the AAC candidate.

While reports had earlier circulated that the DSS could seek to suspend the proceedings until after the election, the agency’s counsel subsequently indicated in court that he was prepared for the matter to proceed.
