Benue State Government has commenced an asset audit to determine the state of facilities and investments required to resume operations at its long abandoned Taraku Mills, in Gwer West Local Government Area of the State.

Group Managing Director, GMD of Benue Investment and Property Company, BIPC, Raymond Asemakaha, who valued the State asset at N50 billion disclosed plans to commence dry-run testing at the plant by Monday, next week.

Established in 1982 and incorporated in 1986, Taraku Mills officially commenced full production in 1989.

The massive agro-processing plant features a maize feed plant with an annual capacity of 120,000 tons, and a feed mill capable of processing over 172,300 tons per year.

However, this critical industrial infrastructure has remained completely dormant for over a decade.

During a recent evaluation of the facility, Asemakaha, noted that the state-owned asset—valued at over N50 billion remains remarkably intact despite its long period of inactivity.

He emphasised that the plant holds immense potential to drive economic growth and industrialise the state’s agricultural sector.

As an immediate intervention during the inspection tour, the GMD cleared five months of outstanding allowances owed to the security personnel safeguarding the premises.

The technical status and operational history of the machinery were further detailed by the facility’s Maintenance Officer.

If successfully completed, the revitalisation of Taraku Mills is expected to anchor Benue’s agro-industrial sector, generate thousands of sustainable jobs, and open up vital market opportunities for local farmers and businesses.
