BREAKING: Oba of Benin Summons Traditional Doctors, Youth Leaders Over Insecurity

The Benin Traditional Council has announced a series of emergency meetings involving key traditional stakeholders in Benin Kingdom to map out strategies to address the prevailing security challenges in Edo State and across the country.

This was communicated in two separate statements signed by Asiriuwa Victor Nosakhare on behalf of the Secretary of the Benin Traditional Council.

According to the Council, the directive was issued on the authority of His Royal Majesty, Oba Ewuare II, who has deemed it necessary to explore additional traditional and strategic measures to complement government efforts aimed at restoring peace, order and security within the kingdom.

The Council said the move underscores the commitment of the Benin monarch to supporting initiatives that promote safety and stability in communities across the state, amid growing concerns over insecurity.

As part of the intervention, all Igiohen N’ Ikpia and Igiohen N’ Ikhuo, regarded as traditional doctors within the Benin Kingdom, have been invited to an emergency meeting scheduled for Tuesday, June 23, 2026, by 12 noon prompt at Ugha Ozolua, Oba Palace, Benin City.

Similarly, all Okaighele also known as youth leaders in the Kingdom have also been summoned to a separate emergency meeting slated for Wednesday, June 24, 2026, also by 12 noon prompt, at Ugha Ozolua, Oba Palace, Benin City.

The Council directed all invited stakeholders to attend the meetings in person, stressing that the engagements are considered critical to ongoing efforts to strengthen traditional support for security and community vigilance.

It further emphasised that the notice should be treated with utmost urgency, noting that compliance with the directive is mandatory for all concerned.
