Wike: I Would Have Helped Tinubu Win Osun Election ‘At All Costs’
FCT Minister Nyesom Wike says President Bola Tinubu could have secured victory for the APC in the Osun State governorship election if the President had chosen to deploy federal influence.
Wike made the comment on Tuesday while speaking to journalists during an inspection of flood-prone areas in Maitama, Abuja.
The minister, who remains a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), said he would have supported Tinubu if the President had decided to use the influence of the Federal Government to secure an All Progressives Congress (APC) victory in the election.
“If the president had wanted to win the Osun state election at all costs, I would have been there and we would have won it, and there’s nothing the governor can do,” Wike said.
Wike Says No ‘Federal Might’ Was Used
According to Wike, the outcome of the Osun election demonstrated that the Federal Government did not intervene to favour the APC.
“There was no federal might used in Osun. When you see the force and might of the federal government, you will know,” he said.
Wike’s comments come after the election in which Ademola Adeleke was declared the winner, according to the details provided.
The result, as stated by Wike, saw Adeleke secure victory in 19 of the 30 local government areas, while APC candidate Bola Oyebamiji won 11.
Wike Speaks on Adeleke and APC
The FCT minister also suggested that
Adeleke could have been a member of the APC if political circumstances had developed differently.
“Ordinarily, Adeleke would have been with APC if things had worked out well,” Wike said.
The statement adds another dimension to Wike’s comments about the political relationships and alignments surrounding the Osun election.
Minister Predicts Easier 2027 Election for Tinubu
Wike also gave his assessment of the 2027 presidential election, predicting that Tinubu would face a less difficult contest than he did in 2023.
“The 2027 elections will be the easiest one for the President compared to 2023,” he said.
He based his prediction on what he described as a weakened opposition, saying:
“This time around, the opposition has been crippled, homeless, no feather.”
Wike’s comments are likely to generate further political reactions as parties and political figures begin positioning themselves ahead of the 2027 general elections.
