A massive explosion ripped through the Valero refinery in Port Arthur, Texas, overnight. Aerial footage shows walls of flame and columns of black smoke rising over one of America’s largest refining complexes.

Shelter-in-place ordered for west Port Arthur. No injuries reported. Capacity: 335,000 barrels per day. Cause under investigation. Valero says process upset in a coker unit.

Within minutes, IRGC-affiliated accounts on X claimed credit. “Sabotage.” The word spread through pro-Iran channels before the fire department arrived. No evidence supports the claim.

Valero’s own emergency teams and local authorities point to an industrial process failure. The investigation is ongoing.

But here is what matters more than the cause.
