BREAKING: Suspected ISWAP Fighter Surrenders To Troops In Borno
A suspected member of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) has surrendered to troops of 192 Battalion in Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State.
Security sources said the suspect surrendered at about 12:35 p.m. on May 7 while troops were on picketing duty along the Gwoza–Limankara road.
The sources disclosed that the surrendered insurgent claimed to have escaped from the Drume terrorist camp located within the Mandara Mountains axis.
Items recovered from him included the sum of N3,500.
The suspect is currently in military custody for profiling, debriefing, and further necessary action.
Security analysts say recent months have witnessed increasing cases of terrorists surrendering to troops amid sustained military offensives and pressure on insurgent enclaves across the North-East.
Troops have continued clearance operations, patrols, and interdiction missions in parts of Borno State to dismantle remaining terrorist strongholds and encourage further defections.
