Gov. Aliyu Says,’Drug Abuse Fuels 80% of Sokoto’s Insecurity’
Governor Ahmed Aliyu of Sokoto State has stated that drug abuse is responsible for about 80 per cent of the security challenges confronting the state.
Speaking at a public lecture marking the UN International Day Against Drug Abuse, Aliyu said widespread use of hard drugs has contributed significantly to banditry and other violent crimes.
He noted that many perpetrators commit atrocities while under the influence of narcotics.
The governor urged youths to shun drugs and announced the establishment of an office to coordinate awareness campaigns.
Drug abuse is a major driver of insecurity in Sokoto State.
Many bandits and criminals commit crimes under the influence of drugs.
The state government has established an office to combat substance abuse.
Collective action involving parents, teachers, and community leaders is needed.
The NDLEA described drug abuse as a major threat to public health and security.
The government is strengthening prevention and rehabilitation efforts. Communities must support the fight against drug abuse.
