JUST-IN: Sergio Busquets Begins Coaching Career as Barcelona B Assistant

Barcelona legend Sergio Busquets has officially taken his first step into coaching after returning to the club as an assistant coach with Barça Atlètic, the club’s reserve team.

The former Spain international will work alongside Juliano Belletti, who leads the Barcelona B side, as Busquets begins his transition from professional footballer to coach.

Barcelona confirmed that Busquets has joined Belletti’s coaching staff to bring his experience and football knowledge to the development of the club’s young players while he completes his coaching course.

The appointment marks Busquets’ return to Barcelona after three years away from the club.

He spent 15 seasons with the first team, becoming one of the most decorated players in the club’s history before continuing his career with Inter Miami.

Busquets retired from professional football after the 2025 season and is now beginning a new chapter in the game.

Working With Barcelona’s Young Players
The new role will allow Busquets to gain practical coaching experience while working closely with young players coming through Barcelona’s famed academy system.

His extensive experience as a defensive midfielder and his understanding of tactical positioning are expected to be valuable to Belletti’s coaching team.

Busquets will also continue his coaching education as he works towards obtaining his coaching qualification.

During his Barcelona playing career, Busquets made 722 appearances for the club and won 32 major trophies, including nine La Liga titles and three Champions League trophies.

His return therefore represents more than just the beginning of a coaching career; it brings one of Barcelona’s most influential former midfielders back into the club’s football structure.

For now, Busquets will work under Belletti with Barça Atlètic as he continues his journey towards becoming a fully qualified coach.
