Eight Undocumented Foreign Nationals Arrested After Police Stop And Search Minibus Taxi During N7 Vehicle Checkpoint In Steinkopf
Eight foreign nationals were arrested during a vehicle checkpoint conducted by the South African Police Service (SAPS) in Steinkopf, Northern Cape, on Thursday, 17 September 2026. The operation formed part of ongoing efforts by police to address undocumented migration and ensure compliance with immigration legislation.
At approximately 10:15, Steinkopf SAPS members conducted a Vehicle Checkpoint (VCP) along the N7 National Route. Police stopped and searched a minibus taxi, where they found eight foreign nationals who were unable to produce valid documentation authorising their stay in South Africa.
The eight individuals were subsequently arrested and detained for further processing for alleged contraventions of the Immigration Act, 2002 (Act No. 13 of 2002). They remain in police custody and are expected to appear in the Springbok Magistrate’s Court in due course.
SAPS Namakwa District has appealed to communities not to harbour, conceal or assist undocumented persons in evading law enforcement authorities. Members of the public are encouraged to report suspected undocumented persons, suspicious activities or movements to the nearest police station, with information provided to police treated confidentially.
