Eight foreign nationals were arrested during a vehicle checkpoint conducted by the South African Police Service (SAPS) in Steinkopf, Northern Cape, on Thursday, 17 September 2026. The operation formed part of ongoing efforts by police to address undocumented migration and ensure compliance with immigration legislation.

At approximately 10:15, Steinkopf SAPS members conducted a Vehicle Checkpoint (VCP) along the N7 National Route. Police stopped and searched a minibus taxi, where they found eight foreign nationals who were unable to produce valid documentation authorising their stay in South Africa.

The eight individuals were subsequently arrested and detained for further processing for alleged contraventions of the Immigration Act, 2002 (Act No. 13 of 2002). They remain in police custody and are expected to appear in the Springbok Magistrate’s Court in due course.
