Mohbad Paternity Dispute: Court Orders DNA Test for Son Liam and Singer’s Remains
DNA samples have been collected from the remains of late singer Mohbad and his son, Liam, under court supervision as the prolonged paternity controversy surrounding the child moves closer to a resolution.
The exercise took place on Saturday, October 31, 2026, following an application by the singer’s wife, Omowunmi Aloba, for a court-approved DNA test to establish Liam’s paternity.
The dispute, which gained public attention after Mohbad’s father, Joseph Aloba, repeatedly questioned the child’s paternity and demanded a DNA test, has been subject to prolonged legal proceedings.
A welfare officer was appointed to oversee the exercise after the court approved Omowunmi’s application, with October 31 fixed for sample collection.
The process was conducted under heavy security following concerns about possible disturbances, particularly after Joseph reportedly called on his online supporters for backing, while some social media users suggested staging protests at the venue.
Mohbad’s mother, Abosede, younger brother, Adura, and wife, Omowunmi, were present during the proceedings. The exercise reportedly became emotional when the late singer’s body was identified as part of the process.
Samples were collected from Mohbad’s remains at Mainland General Hospital, popularly known as the Infectious Diseases Hospital, Yaba. They were subsequently transported under tight security to the Lagos State DNA and Forensic Centre, where Liam’s samples were also obtained for forensic examination.
Speaking after the exercise, the family’s lawyer, Barrister Kabiru, said no date had been confirmed for the release of the results.
He explained that the parties would be formally notified through the court once the findings were ready.
The DNA test marks a major step in the paternity dispute that has generated widespread controversy since Mohbad’s death in September 2023, with the findings expected to provide scientific evidence to help the court determine the matter.
