BREAKING: Edo APC Chairman Tenebe Sparks Controversy With ‘AK-47 Fire’ Remark Over Tinubu Votes
The Edo State Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Jarrett Tenebe, has sparked controversy after making a remark involving “AK-47 fire” while speaking about the party’s target of securing 2.5 million votes for President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election.
Tenebe made the comment while addressing supporters on the party’s mobilisation efforts in Edo State. Reports of the remarks emerged on October 2, 2026.
The APC chairman had previously said the party secured 2,158,600 votes in the recent Edo local government election and described the figure as evidence of its mobilisation capacity. The party has subsequently set a target of 2.5 million votes for Tinubu in the 2027 election.
Tenebe’s Controversial Remark
While urging party supporters to work towards achieving the target, Tenebe warned against anyone attempting to obstruct the party’s efforts.
His reference to “AK-47 fire” has drawn attention because of its explicit association with armed violence, particularly as political parties begin preparations for the 2027 elections.
The remark was reported as part of a broader speech in which Tenebe said the party was determined to achieve its promised vote target for Tinubu.
Opposition Calls for Action
The comments have attracted criticism from opposition political actors.
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Edo State has called on the APC leadership to address Tenebe’s remarks, describing them as a threat of electoral violence.
The controversy comes as political parties intensify grassroots mobilisation ahead of the 2027 general elections.
APC’s 2.5 Million-Vote Target
The Edo APC has repeatedly stated its intention to deliver 2.5 million votes to Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election.
Governor Monday Okpebholo has also publicly spoken about the target, while Tenebe has cited the party’s claimed 2,158,600 votes in the local government election as evidence that the target is achievable.
However, the reported local government election figures have also been disputed by the Conference of Registered Political Parties (CRPP) in Edo, which questioned the scale of the figures announced by the APC.
The latest controversy places renewed attention on the language used by political actors as preparations for the 2027 elections gather momentum.
