Raphinha Named Temporary Barcelona Captain as Flick Waits for Dressing-Room Vote
Barcelona have appointed Raphinha, Pedri and Eric Garcia as provisional captains while the club waits for the squad to complete its captaincy vote.
Raphinha has been handed a temporary leadership role at Barcelona as manager Hansi Flick prepares for the club’s final captaincy selection.
The Brazilian winger is among three players currently serving as Barcelona captains, alongside Pedri and Eric Garcia.
The arrangement is understood to be temporary and will remain in place until the club’s squad is finalised and the players conduct their captaincy vote.
Flick Explains Temporary Captaincy Decision
Flick explained that the current situation is linked to Frenkie de Jong’s unavailability.
“Frenkie is not available right now. I’ve decided on the captains provisionally until we do the vote, once the team is finished,” Flick said.
The Barcelona manager’s comments indicate that the current appointments should not necessarily be regarded as the club’s final captaincy hierarchy for the season.
Raphinha Among Barcelona’s Temporary Leaders
Raphinha has established himself as an important member of Barcelona’s squad since joining the Catalan club and has increasingly taken on greater responsibility within the team.
Pedri and Eric Garcia have also been included in Flick’s provisional leadership group.
The final decision on Barcelona’s captains is expected to come after the squad has been completed and the dressing-room vote has taken place.
Until then, Raphinha, Pedri and Garcia will operate as the club’s provisional captains.
What Happens Next?
Barcelona’s captaincy situation is expected to become clearer once the transfer window closes and the squad is settled.
The players will then have the opportunity to vote, after which the club’s final captaincy structure can be established.
For now, Flick has opted for a temporary arrangement to provide leadership within the squad while waiting for the final decision.
