Manchester City manager Enzo Maresca has indicated that promising young winger Ryan McAidoo should remain with the first team as he continues his development at the club.

Maresca believes the 18-year-old can benefit significantly from training alongside Manchester City’s senior players and learning from established attackers.

“The best for him is to stay with us, learn, be around the first-team every day, try to be clever, intelligent, try to learn from Semenyo, Doku, the ones we have in this moment,” Maresca said.

The City manager has now made it clear that regular exposure to the first-team environment is considered an important part of McAidoo’s development.

Rather than immediately sending the youngster elsewhere for first-team football, Maresca believes staying around the senior squad could help him understand the standards required at the highest level.

McAidoo can also learn from experienced City attackers, including Jérémy Doku and Antoine Semenyo, who have impressed during pre-season.

The decision is another indication that Maresca is prepared to give Manchester City’s academy graduates opportunities as he begins his first competitive season in charge following Pep Guardiola’s departure
